Decorating Perfume Bottles: Frosting, Coating, Screen Print or Foil?
By Black Oud Factory

The bottle carries your brand for as long as the customer owns it. Four decoration methods dominate UAE production — here is how they differ in look, durability, cost and schedule.
Two brands can order the same stock bottle and end up with products that look nothing alike. The difference is decoration: what is done to the glass after it is moulded and before it is filled. Choosing that early is worth more than most artwork revisions, because it changes the bottle's cost, its lead time and how it ages on a dresser.
Frosting
An acid or sandblast treatment turns clear glass matt. It hides the fill level, which flatters oil-based and darker juices, and it gives a soft diffuse surface that photographs well. It also shows fingerprints, and partial frosting needs masking, which adds a step.
Spray coating
Colour sprayed onto the outside of the glass and cured. This is how you get a solid black, deep colour or a gradient bottle. Coverage and cure quality decide whether the finish chips at the shoulder in transit, so ask to see an adhesion test rather than a colour swatch alone.
Screen printing on glass
Ceramic or organic ink printed directly on the bottle, one screen per colour. It is the most durable way to put a logo on glass and the standard for names and back-panel text. Fine detail and gradients are its weakness — halftones on curved glass rarely hold.
Hot foil and metallised labels
For genuinely reflective gold or silver on the bottle itself, foil or a metallised label outperforms printed metallic ink. Labels are the faster and cheaper route for a first run and the easiest to change between variants; direct decoration looks better and costs more to revise.
Choosing without over-engineering
- First run under a few hundred units: stock bottle, screen printed logo, labelled variant name
- Positioning against premium shelf competitors: coated or frosted glass with foiled logo
- Multiple variants from one bottle: keep the glass decoration identical and vary the label and box
- Oil and attar lines: frosting or coating, since fill level and sediment are visible in clear glass
Schedule effects
Every decoration method adds a screen or die setup and a proof cycle before the run. Approving the bottle decoration at the same time as the box, rather than after it, is the single easiest way to keep a launch on schedule.
Our Ajman plant does frosting, spray coating, screen printing and foiling in-house next to the filling line, so the decorated bottle never leaves the site between decoration and fill.
